Hi, I'm Krista - an award winning actress & writer, multi-disciplinary artist, nomad, and perpetual seeker of what it means to be human. I'm also a huge fan of organic supermarkets - I make a point of exploring at least one in each city that I visit (fun fact: many people with European ancestry carry a gene that appears to cause us to romanticize food).
I hold a Masters in Visual & Media Anthropology from the Free University of Berlin - one of the top schools in the region, often referred to as the “Oxford of Germany” - which I obtained after completing my B.F.A. in Image Arts (magna cum laude) in Toronto, Canada. My MA thesis documentary component was generously catalogued and presented as an intersectional art-meets-science via space and place-centric storytelling teaching tool at the prestigious ETH Zurich as part of their “Architecture and Art” program.
After grad school, I became certified as a holistic and sports nutritionist, which eventually led me down the path of fully embracing my natural intuitive gifts as a mystic and shamanic healer. Throughout it all, acting has remained my number one passion, but I feel very strongly that the best actors are those who fully embrace the multitude of experiences that life has to offer.
I was recently featured as one of Yoga Digest's top change makers, and my 6x award winning comedy series, Wholesome Foods, I Love You... Is That OK? - compared to The Mindy Project by The Toronto Star - is currently streaming on Amazon Prime (5-star rating! “Slacker for millennial women!”). The series has screened as an Official Selection at festivals in New York City, Italy, South Korea, Colombia, Los Angeles, Miami, New Jersey, Baltimore, Montreal, France, and Minnesota, having garnered over 30 award nominations.
My sophomore series, fête, has screened in Los Angeles, New York City, Peru, the UK, and has been awarded Best Story at The British Web Awards, the ISA Spotlight Award at the Indie Series Awards in LA, and Best Ensemble Cast at NYC WebFest. More recently, we’ve had the distinct honor of screening this series at TO WebFest in Toronto, Baltimore Next Media Web Festival, Apulia Web Fest in Italy, GIFF in Glendale, Panama Series Fest, and New Jersey Web Fest.
Not long ago, I was selected as the only Canadian creator for Catalyst Storieroad’s International program, was invited to serve as a juror on the Television Nominating Committee for the SAG Awards, sat on the jury for the Canadian Rockie Awards (Television: foreign language category) and NYC Web Fest, and was given the honor of being selected for Women in Film Fellowship Program in the actor/content creator cohort. The program is one of WIF LA’s most competitive and I am beyond grateful to have been given the opportunity to work closely with Sarah Finn (Casting at Marvel) and Melanie Donkers (Mermade).
I speak four languages, and am a proud Canadian of Armenian, German, Swiss, Scandinavian, & Scottish descent.
Formerly a competitive synchronized swimmer (2x Canadian national bronze medalist), I’ve also dabbled in African dance and belly dancing, practiced yoga with boa snakes, have a background in both Classical and Music Theatre, and was fortunate to have sung the Canadian national anthem with my school choir at one of the ‘93 World Series games in Toronto. Lately I’ve been enjoying playing around with Muay Thai, boxing, new forms of digital art + design, and my mini goldendoodle named Mozart.
A digital preview of my first published book of street photography can be viewed here.
I believe in having the courage to tell the truth, kindness as an extreme sport, and in leaping even when I'm terrified of falling flat on my face. The net will always appear.
I also believe in the power of deep breaths, belly laughs, stillness, taking both everything & nothing seriously, sunny days, and the Oxford comma.
